Dev Log: The Faraway mountain

Hello everyone! This blog has been dead for a while cause I have been focusing on posts on social media for the past, well, 2 years. I decided to change that, moving forward I will mix social networks posts with blog posts, at least when there is something more to share, so Welcome to another devlog entry!

The past weeks were a bit difficult for me for many reasons that I will not bother you with, but as a result, I don’t have that many exciting updates, at least not as many as I would like to be able to bring to you!

But in any case, little is better than none, so here I am!

If you followed my last entry, you probably remember that I was working on making my game jam game Mini Mine a full blown game.

Mini Mine Game

Well, that didn’t work well. I ended up in a place where I was having a hard time thinking on how to make the game bigger, without being boring while still fitting in my available time to work on it.

I kept finding myself in a frustrating loop, and progress in the game was not really happening and I was not having fun with the game development.

I took the difficult decision to stop working on it, at least for some time being.

Not all is lost though, I am using much of what I learned on that project, both concept and tech ideas to apply to this new project that I will be working moving forward, which I am happy to present to you today:

The Faraway Mountain!

This game will be, in a way, a metamorphosis of Mini Mine, it will still have management, incremental and exploration aspects.

The bigger difference is that Mini Mine was a full blown sandbox/management game, while Faraway Mountain will be dungeon crawler style game, and this is a big thing for me cause I feel I can scale the game size and complexity better to the bandwidth that I have on a dungeon crawler like that instead of a more complex management game.

The game will tell a story about Bryn, a female dwarf who got tired of the corporate life in the big dwarven mines and, challenging all odds and prejudices, went to live her dream of becoming a great miner and crafter in the Faraway Mountain!

Well, we will see how things will go!

On a minor note, I have also been putting some effort into wrapping up some unfinished things on some of my already published games, the most worth sharing is that I have been working on putting gamepad support to my Mine Cart Puzzle game, Mine Cart Operator! One of my next goals is to get that finished out and put the game on steam so people can try the game on the Steamdeck!

Thanks for following up my work and I hope to bring more exciting news and content in the future!
